visiting the Greek islands?
Hello we will be in Greece for about 14 days. We will be in Crete for 4 days and 5 days left we would like spend on other islands. We're looking at two days in five different islands and a day in Athens. two days is sufficient for an island? I recommend? we are thinking of Crete Rhodes, Santorini, Mykonos and Paros or Patmos. (What are we trying to stay together so you do not have to take the ferry for too long whereas it does not have much time too.) We also recommend making reservations for hotels in the U.S.? or wait until we get there? The reason I ask is that if we like a lot and want an island left for another day. If we have reservations at a hotel on another island .. We'll have to get that particular day. What about ferries? we must wait for the ferry reserve exists? will be more expensive? how often to go on the ferry one day? thank you very much!
The Greek islands are fantastic! You'll have a wonderful time. From the looks of your itinerary are staying mainly in the Cyclades, and not venture to the north at all. Staying a day Athens is a good plan, because in this time of year is extremely hot, busy, busybody, and especially dirty. I that two days is a bit too short for island and I'm going to have a day to relax after your ferry, find your hotel / villa, scope potential of beaches, bus stops, etc. I would recommend more close to four days per island. Even if that means cutting two of its islands – will appreciate it more than you know the islands better than a whirlwind stay. I recommend Naxos Island Paros instead. They are quite similar, but Naxos is approximately double in size, with some of the best restaurants and beaches that are found on islands (one Italian restaurant called Rosa had the greatest food I have eaten! Really affordable!) Naxos is only about an hour and a little ferry from Paros, and is really worth worth the extra time ferry. Crete and Rhodes are welcome – I've never been to Mykonos, but if you are staying in Santorini, make sure you are staying in the village of Oia, or not worth worthwhile. Oia look like you expect to find Santorini (white buildings, blue roofs, etc.). Most of the rest of the island is less "charming" as it gently. When I traveled to the islands last summer (from about 3.5 weeks) do not get rid of one, and had absolutely no problem with finding hotel or ferry ticket. I advise you not to book anything, because the second you step off the ferry you will see about 50 people crowded the docks, getting photos their villages in you and the prices offered for them. You will be able to negotiate much lower prices than those paid after the reservation, and find places they are so nice. If you do have a specific preference for villas (especially if the price is not really an object) can also be booked in advance, especially if you feel more comfortable being around most western, since they all tend to cluster in the same hotels. For your ferry tickets – Do not even bother booking. They are abundant and cheap. I suggest buying the cheapest seats in the crew (), and just spend all their time in the halls of the ferry. There are sofas, cafes, restaurants, etc. not worth paying the difference of 10 euros for an airline seat, as when you'll be wandering in the most part. Ferries leave on average 3-4 times a day.
