A member of my husband once said it is true that you can set your own schedule when working on your own, you can work 60 hours in any week that you want! I recently had someone expresses sympathy when I said I was building my own business, because a friend told him that they are always working.

My parents decided to build a KOA Kampground when I was 12 years. Both had full time jobs, and not a lot of money to start. This became a total family affair! We all work together to clear the ground and do things like paint. I remember my mother getting dizzy and falling from a ladder, because he was painting shower waterproof paint and the area was not well ventilated. My father did all the plumbing and electrical work himself and hired help only when absolutely necessary. They worked constantly!

The company was part-time job for my sisters and I and some of our friends. She helped pay for college, and later in life has given us an inheritance. I wish my father had lived long enough to see how beautiful the property was. Much of open field when she was initiated but rented a tree spade to move trees each fall young of the forest area in the fields. The entire campus is now the shade.

With this background I fully understand the idea of the dedication and persistence in building a business. I also understand that should be a labor of love! My parents loved the outdoors and camping. I would never have chosen this business or not, or would not have been successful if they tried.

I think the ingredients for creating a successful business include:

  • A strong WHY
  • Persistence
  • Education
  • Have fun!

You must have a reason to succeed and be able to see with feeling. I think "Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill is the best book to help someone solidify their WHY.

Persistence in working towards This view is also crucial, and also explained in Hill's classic.

Mr. Hill also discusses the acquisition of knowledge you need. I think this is a big reason why many new businesses fail. Too often, the good people we know everything, or listen to the wrong people for advice. Even with the limited funds and having to use up vacation time, my parents attended a University KOA. Also forged relationships with other successful owners of KOA to learn the necessary skills.

What about fun? If you choose the right business, much of the work feels like fun! In my career working on computers that I never thought it was fun to work weekends! In my business of network marketing, I do not care at all. Write Articles and blogs and videos to create personal brand, I can find new contacts, people call me (or receive calls), and listen to conference calls and reading material self-development, seven days a week. I have been told that you can start an MLM business working 10 hours a week and I'm sure it's true. But I honestly have never told the amount of time I spend on my business because it's all good!

If you are not motivated to be persistent, check your WHY. If you're not having fun, maybe some type of education is to learn a different approach that best suits your personality.

Do not forget in the process of maintaining relationships with people who appreciate it. Explain what you are doing and why, but it must have some time for them too.

It will not be any fun at the top if 're alone!
