Paleochora – The free karaoke corner of Crete

Paleochora, 'The Bride of the Libyan Sea ", as it is called, is a small city a Greek (or perhaps large town) sat on the south-west of the island of Crete. Good, 'sitting' on the coast is a little misleading. The town is built on a small peninsula that juts into the sea and a perfect holiday destination for many people "who know". About 80% of tourists visiting the city again and again. Many of them will not recommend to anyone other than trusted friends Paleochora because they want to keep it from becoming too popular and developed!

Moving in Paleochora is easy. It takes just 5 minutes walk from the West Coast to the East Coast and throughout the city lies between the two so you are never far from anywhere. Someone once described it as like being in a small private Greek island, as it is easy to forget that is connected to a large land mass.

That land mass is useful, mind you. Paleochora protect the great mountains of the worst weather. Many times it can be raining on the north coast and sunny and dry in Paleochora! The city has two Blue Flag beaches, a large sandy beach (which has a semi-official nudist section) on the west side and a beach pebbles on the east side. This is useful because, on windy days, there's always a beach that is protected. The water is very clean, very clear and there are no dangerous currents bath is safe for everyone. In fact Paleochora is an ideal destination for a family vacation to the former.

The tip of the peninsula is dominated by a 12th century Venetian fortress that is worth exploring – unfortunately, mostly just the walls are still in these days, but not much archaeological work has ben carried out to show the structures that once stood here. Moreover, the views back to town with the mountains behind it is wonderful. Keep your eyes open! You can discover a centuries old Venetian coin on the floor or even an old cannon ball!

At night the city transforms into a complex low-key but interesting. The main road through the new cent of the city and the waterfront that are closed to traffic after 7pm and restaurants and bars put their tables out on the roads. City Walks hearing many different languages, with people enjoying themselves is a real pleasure. No drunken behavior, louts no good people just nice all having a pleasant evening. This is a complete escape from the impudence, "in-your-face" resorts that have grown a lot small towns to do so. Here you can experience Greece as it was 25 or 30 years ago (even here prices are the lowest in Crete).

There is a website that is dedicated to being a resource for people wishing to visit Paleochora and is called simply, The Paleochora Site. This site has many interactive features including discussion forums, photo gallery, local radio station Live blogs about local recipes and walks in the surrounding area. There are also two useful pages on how to get there. This is a booking service room and the other page has many links to find href = "http://www.thepaleochorasite.com/flights.html" cheap>, and rental hire. Visit the site and then visit Paleochora Paleochora for a perfect vacation!
